Police Log: Woman Assaulted in Newton Corner; License Charges; Driving Under the Influence

Framingham woman found sleeping in car

A Framingham woman was arrested on April 18 after she allegedly drove drunk fell asleep behind the wheel.

According to police reports, Newton Police officers responded to the area of Park Street and Washington Street just after 6 a.m. for reports of a car stopped in the middle of the road and a woman hunched over the steering wheel.

When police arrived on scene, they found the car in the intersection with the driver asleep. The car was still running, reports said. 

As a result, Hayley M. Dunn, 28, of 46 Brookfield Circle, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Waltham man faces license charges

A Waltham man was arrested on April 18 after he allegedly drove without a license, police said.

Welner Garcia, 26, of 49 Willow St., was arrested and charged with driving without a license. He was also cited for not wearing a seatbelt.

According to police reports, a 38-year-old Waltham man was also cited by police for allowing an unlicensed driver to use his vehicle. He was also cited for having a defective window, reports said. 

Free merchandise ends in arrest

A Bloomingdale's employee was arrested for larceny on April 18 after allegedly falsely ringing up merchandise and passing it off to two customers, reports said. 

Nabi Park, 19, of 13 Agawam Dr., was arrested and charged with larceny over $250, police said.

Lexington man faces OUI charges

Police are seeking charges against a Lexington man after he allegedly drove under the influence and hit a parked car on April 20. 

According to reports, Newton Police officers responded to the intersection of Auburn Street and Charles Street around 9:35 p.m. for reports of a car accident.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the Newton Fire Department tending to someone sitting on the curb. The officers also saw a white Dodge van on the sidewalk and a Lexus sedan to the left side of the van, forming a "T-shape."

The owner of the van told police the van was unoccupied at the time of the accident and parked outside his Auburn Street home. 

Newton Police officers were not able to speak with the driver at first, as medics were tending to him. Once he was placed in the ambulance, though, police spoke with him and determined that he had been driving under the influence (OUI) of alcohol when he hit the parked van, police said.

The 37-year-old Lexington man was issued the OUI citation in the hospital, police said.

Stolen iPhone

A man told Newton Police on April 20 that someone stole his iPhone out of the Mount Ida College lacrosse locker room sometime between 3 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., reports said. 

Scratched car

Police responded to Cross Street on April 21 after a resident reported someone scratched her driver's side doors (front and rear) sometime between Friday night and Sunday morning. 

Domestic incident

A 17-year-old male from Newton will have to appear in court for assault and battery after police responded to Saw Mill Brook Parkway on April 21 for reports of a domestic incident, police said. 

Woman assaulted in Newton Corner

Newton Police and Boston Police responded to a Boston address on April 22 after a woman reported being assaulted in Newton.

According to reports, the woman was walking in the Newton Corner area (believed to be somewhere near the intersection of Park Street and Washington Street) around 2 a.m. when two males surprised her. One male struck her in the head with a closed fist and the men stole her phone (Samsung Galaxy) before fleeing the area, reports said. 

The woman could not provide any further description of the suspects, reports said. She did have a visible mark on the side of her head and some swelling, but refused medical attention.

Car break-ins

Newton Police responded to the following reports of vehicle break-ins:

  • April 18, Wells Avenue - Sometime between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., someone broke into a vehicle and stole the vehicle's radio and stereo equipment. 
  • April 21, Gardner Street - The car was last used on April 12 and the owner discovered on April 21 that someone had gone through the unlocked vehicle. Nothing appeared to be stolen.
  • April 22, Pierrepont Road - The vehicle's owner found the glove compartment was open and papers were scattered all over the car. However, nothing appeared stolen. The owner had not used the vehicle since April 18.
