NEWTON, MA — Police were called to the office park on Grove Street Tuesday morning for a report of a person with a threatening note. The threat prompted road closures in the area, but police said that roads were reopened within an hour.

Newton police spokesperson Lt. Bruce Apotheker said no one was arrested. The details of the reported threat are unclear, but Apotheker told Patch the threat was not founded.

According to a note sent just before 10:30 a.m. from Lasell College's chief of police to college staff, police closed one building and Woodland Road to the Riverside MBTA asked folks to stay away from the Riverside MBTA.

The threat was not made on Lasell's campus, and students are on spring break, but college officials just wanted to follow the Newton Police lead, according to a spokesperson for the school.

“Earlier today, Newton Police notified Lasell’s campus police department of an alleged incident on Grove Street near our Newton campus," spokesman Ian Meropol said in a statement. "We were also informed that the Riverside Station was temporarily closed but has since reopened. Because it is spring break students are not currently on campus."

Although early scanner reports indicated police planned to close the Riverside MBTA station, an MBTA spokesperson told Patch that Riverside was not closed and there were no associated delays.
