Two people were transported to area hospitals Wednesday night after a head-on collision in West Newton, according to the Newton Fire Department. <a href="https://twitter.com/newtonfiredept" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">In a post on its Twitter feed this morning</a>, the Fire Department said the accident occurred near the intersection of Cherry Street and Derby Street. Engine 4 and Ladder 1 responded to the scene. According to Newton Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker, a call for the two-car accident came in at 9:36 p.m. The accident location was around 154 Cherry St. Newton Police and Fire could not provide additional details on the accident at this time. The crash remains under investigation. <a href="http://breakingnewsnetwork.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Breaking News Network alerts</a> from Wednesday night indicated that the crash caused serious injury and that a second EMS unit was rushed to the scene.
