The Newton native was a driving force behind designating November as Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

NEWTON, MA — U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D, MA) was a driving force behind an effort to designate the month of November as Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

The resolution was bipartisan, as Auchincloss was joined by fellow U.S. Reps Brendan Boyle, (D, PA) Mike Lawler (R, NY) and Sen.Tina Smith (D, MN) in the effort to introduce the resolution. The designation has the goal of emphasizing the importance of preventing, detecting, and researching lung cancer.

Auchincloss said that the federal government can do more when it comes to supporting research and clinical care for the illness.
