Unattended Cooking Blamed for Chestnut Hill Fire
Newton firefighters were called to the Dudley Road home late Saturday night.

The Newton Fire Department believes that unattended cooking is to blame for a late-night fire that damaged a Chestnut Hill home's kitchen.
According to a press release from the Newton Fire Department, firefighters were called to 480 Dudley Road at 11:43 p.m. Saturday. Crews arrived to find a kitchen fire in a one-story ranch-style home.
Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to the kitchen area, but spent the next three-plus hours overhauling the home, checking for hidden fire pockets by opening walls and ceilings.

No firefighters or civilians were injured, but the initial damage estimate came in at $80,000, according to the press release.
