When Will Swimming Season Open at Crystal Lake?

The Newton hot spot for staying cool is scheduled to open for pre-season swimming very soon.

Crystal Lake closed early last season due to a blue-green algae bloom, but it appears the lake will open to swimmers on schedule this year.

Pre-season swimming at Crystal Lake will open June 10, with daily hours from 3 p.m. until dusk. On June 27, the lake opens for the official summer season with weekday hours of 9:30 a.m. to dusk and weekend hours of 1 p.m. to dusk.

Swimming is permitted only in the designated beach area and swimmers must have a permit. Permits are issued to Newton residents at rates of:

- $45 per adult (anyone 18 and older)

- $20 for students (anyone ages 6-17) and seniors (62 and older)

Daily use permits are available to residents at a rate of $6 per adult and $4 per child. Non-residents can swim for the day at a rate of $10 regardless of age.

Season swim permits provide access to both Crystal Lake and Gath Pool.
