DiZoglio Files Municipal Campaign Ethics Legislation

State Rep. Diana DiZoglio filed legislation this week to address a campaign finance loophole for local elected officials.

Currently, unlike state and county candidates, it is legal for municipal officials to remain on the ballot if they have multiple delinquent accounts and unpaid ethics violations as well as unreported expenditures, and contributions.

DiZoglio seeks to change that and require city and town officials to adhere to the state and county standard when it comes to campaign finance law.  

“In just my first week as the State Rep. from the 14th Essex district, I have heard from many constituents who feel this ethical wrong needs to be corrected," DiZoglio said in a statement. “People should be able to have confidence that candidates and elected officials are following campaign finance law, whether it be at the state or local level."
