Komen Gives Grant for the Jacki

When it comes to cancer treatment and the recovery process, even the clothes a patient wears can make a difference.

A Little Easier Recovery is a North Andover-based organization that aims to ease the pain and stress for cancer patients. And the Massachusetts Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has given that group a $39,989 grant for “The Jacki Program.”

The "Jacki" is a jacket and so much more. To most people, it appears to be a regular stylish jacket. But it's also a recovery jacket that has extra pockets, velcro seams and special sensitive fabric to allow a breast cancer patient to easily maintain a full range of motion and comfort. Many of the nation's top hospitals provide these special jackets to patients free of charge and are able to do so because of grants made to A Little Easier Recovery.

Almost 9,000 Jacki recovery jackets have been given to cancer patients so far.

“We know that all phases of treatment and recovery are difficult. It is an honor and privilege to know we have helped make it ‘a little easier’ with Komen MA’s support," said Maureen Cardinal, Program Director at A Little Easier Recovery.
