North Andover Resumes Recycling Drop-Off After Fire
The fire at the TBI Recycling center did not impact curbside trash and recycling pickup in North Andover.
NORTH ANDOVER, MA — North ANdover officials said residents can resume dropping off recycling at the transfer station at 210 Holt Road. Tuesday's four-alarm fire at a recycling facility had forced North Andover to temporarily suspend recycling drop off at the transfer station.
The fire at the TBI Recycling center on Holt Road was reported around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses reported seeing thick clouds of smoke and flames shooting out of the facility, which recycles construction materials. The facility that specializes in wood and cardboard construction debris is a "total loss" and will have to be demolished.
Even after the fire was contained, crews worked to douse flames under piles of construction debris. Officials continued to test air quality overnight. While the levels were ruled safe, officials said nearby residents should close windows if they smell smoke. A thick cloud of smoke still clouded the scene as of Wednesday morning.
