O'Connor Ives Sworn In as State Senator

The former Newburyport city councilor is now a member of the state legislature.

Kathleen O'Connor Ives was sworn in last week as First Essex District State Senator at the State House on Beacon Hill. She was elected to the seat in November and succeeds former State Senator Steven Baddour who resigned in April of last year.

“I’m honored to join the State Senate and am ready to get to work,” said O'Connor Ives after the ceremony. “In the immediate future, I'll be focused on meeting with municipal leaders to discuss their concerns and priorities so we can be effective partners. I also look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate.”

O'Connor Ives starts the 188th legislative session having completed staffing the First Essex District State Senate office. O’Connor Ives said, “Quality and responsive constituents services in a top priority for me and I’m very happy with our team. I plan on having regular district office hours in each city and town in the district. Our first district office hours are on Friday, January 18th at the Haverhill Public Library, Milhendler Room from 1:00 p.m. to 2 p.m. and Nevins Memorial Library, Trustee’s Room in Methuen from 3 to 4 p.m.”

O'Connor Ives, 35, was elected to the Massachusetts State Senate on November 6, 2012. Previously, Senator O’Connor Ives was elected three times as City Councilor At-Large in Newburyport, beginning in 2007. She resigned from the City Council effective January 1, 2013.
