Major Peabody Water Main Project To Cause 'Its Share Of Headaches'
There will be some night work involved and the project will take several weeks to complete.
PEABODY, MA — A major water main project to replace the frequently failing main on Lowell Street in Peabody will begin next week and last for "several weeks," according to Peabody Mayor Ted Bettencourt.
The new water main will be installed on Lowell Street from the Route 1 overpass to the West Peabody Fire Station.
"The current main is very old and prone to frequent breaks, which cause major disruption," Bettencourt said in announcing the project.

"This is a sizable project in a very busy area of the city," Bettencourt said. "We expect that it will cause its share of headaches, including traffic congestion and delays. Once complete however, that entire section of Lowell Street will be fully repaved and much improved for residents, drivers and pedestrians."
