PEABODY, MA — Massachusetts is required to develop a plan to facilitate the transition of vehicles from gasoline-fueled to electric with a public forum planned in Peabody on Monday on the installation for charging stations.

The state Department of Transportation is hosting the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment plan as required by the federal infrastructure bill. The meeting will be held at the Torigian Life Center on Central Street on Monday at 6 p.m.

A provision of the bill says that states much have a plan for installing EV stations. MassDOT officials will update the public on the status of the plan, EV charging station site selection information, future construction operations and next steps.

"Transportation accounts for 37 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. In order to meet our climate goals, transitioning to EVs is essential, and that means the availability of charging
stations throughout the Commonwealth," State Rep. Sally Kerans. "I am excited to meet with MassDOT officials, members of our Municipal Light Plant Boards, and community groups to discuss the future of electric vehicle infrastructure in Massachusetts."
