Life-Threatening Injuries In Peabody Route 1 North Crash: Police

UPDATE: State Police said the man driving the car involved may have suffered a medical incident prior to losing control of the vehicle.

PEABODY, MA — A man suffered life-threatening injuries when his car crashed into a utility pole on Route 1 northbound early Thursday afternoon, according to State Police.

"It is possible that the victim suffered a medical accident prior to the crash that caused him to lose control of the car," State Police said about 90 minutes after first reporting the crash at 2 p.m.

A single-car crash deemed "serious" at the time by State Police caused partial lane closures for emergency responders and debris and considerable delays.

The state Department of Transportation said the crash with injuries occurred near Forest Street.
