Sports have a way of teaching invaluable life lessons — building character, fostering teamwork and strengthening the bonds within a community. In the Plymouth area, these values have shaped some truly remarkable athletes from different eras, whose accomplishments continue to inspire.

Patch has teamed up with T-Mobile to spotlight five standout athletes whose achievements have left a lasting mark on our community. While this list is just a snapshot, there are countless others who have helped shape the rich sports culture in our area.


1. Nancy Darsch (Basketball)

Nancy Darsch, a native of Plymouth, is a former professional basketball player and coach. She served as the head coach for Ohio State University and the New York Liberty in the WNBA, and was an assistant coach for the U.S. women's national basketball team, contributing to their gold medal win at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Darsch's leadership and coaching have left a lasting impact on women's basketball, landing her an induction in the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame.

2. Mike Remlinger (Baseball)

Mike Remlinger, who grew up in Plymouth, is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. He played for several teams, including the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, and Atlanta Braves. Remlinger's career in the MLB spanned over a decade, and he was known for his effective left-handed pitching.


3. Gary DiSarcina (Baseball)

Gary DiSarcina, a Malden native who has called Plymouth his home, is a former Major League Baseball shortstop. He played for the California Angels, later serving as a coach and manager in the minor leagues. DiSarcina's contributions to baseball, both on and off the field, have been significant, such as opening the DiSarcina Baseball Academy.

4. Megan Banzi (Soccer)

Megan Banzi, a Plymouth native, is a soccer player who played defense for the UMass Lowell River Hawks. She attended Plymouth North High School, where she earned accolades for her prowess in both soccer and basketball. Banzi went on to continue her athletic career at the collegiate level, joining the UMass Lowell team.


5. Casious Johnson (Football)

Casious Johnson, another Plymouth native, is a football player who played as a running back for Plymouth South High School. In 2022, he ran 209 times for 1,703 yards and 17 touchdowns, and even broke the school's rushing record in 2024. Johnson's performance has been a source of pride for the Plymouth community, and has earned him a handful of college-level offers.
