PLYMOUTH, MA — A Bridgewater woman was convicted and sentenced to jail time Friday for smuggling Suboxone strips into Plymouth County House of Corrections, District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said Monday.

Elana Gordon, 45, of Bridgewater, is being sentenced to six months in prison after prosecutors had originally asked for three to five years.

Massachusetts State Police launched a "months-long" investigation in 2018 into the smuggling of contraband substances at Plymouth County jail.

An attorney at the time, police say Gordon used her position of power to conspire with an inmate who was a relative of hers to smuggle the drugs inside.

"On May 4, 2018, Gordon utilized her attorney privileges to gain entrance to the jail and meet with an inmate who was not her client. Gordon brought 61 Suboxone strips in two manilla envelopes and passed them to an inmate," says the DA's Office.
