Five Things You Need to Know Today: May 20

The Herring Ponds Watershed Association will hold its first general meeting of the season at 7 p.m. Monday, May 20, at the New Testament Church, located at 1120 Long Pond Road (off Exit 2 of Rt. 3).

1. Plymouth's Run for 1 to support Boston's One Fund, takes place at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 25 starting at Pilgrim Memorial Park on the waterfront. The entry is fee is $25 per person or register a team for $100. Participants are encouraged to donate more.

2. The Herring Ponds Watershed Association will hold its first general meeting of the season at 7 p.m. Monday, May 20, at the New Testament Church, located at 1120 Long Pond Road (off Exit 2 of Rt. 3). Debbie Cook, the manager of the Greenscapes Program at North and South Rivers Watershed Association, will give a presentation on lawn care. She’ll show how our current lawn regimens threaten water quality and quantity. She’ll offer proven strategies from landscape professionals that will lead to beautiful yards, safe for people, pets and ponds. Get new ideas for your own lawn care, and be prepared with questions for her to answer. The second half of the meeting will provide the latest information from the committees, such as education and water quality. Call 508-833-2136 with any questions.

3. Celebrate the wild beauty of birds of Plymouth Long Beach through the eyes of an accomplished wildlife photographer from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 (originally scheduled for May 14), at the Plymouth Senior Center, located at 44 Nook Road. Jim Fenton’s exhibit, “Flight Path,” will be on display and he will offer a slide presentation, describe his adventures and answer questions. Refreshments will be served.

4. The Plymouth Center for the Arts is calling for enteries for its Summer Fine Craft Show, to be held from July 29 to Aug. 11. Members of the Center and their friends may submit up to 4 items for a $10 entry fee. A minimum of two items will be included in the show. The Center is looking  looking for objects made from wood, glass, metal, fiber (quilting, felting, clothing etc...) jewelry, decoupage and multi-media works. All entries must be for sale.
