1. Plymouth's Run for 1 to support Boston's One Fund, takes place at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 25 starting at Pilgrim Memorial Park on the waterfront. The entry is fee is $25 per person or register a team for $100. Participants are encouraged to donate more.
2. Sending care packages to troops overseas is a time-honored tradition. This Memorial Day, Emeritus is continuing the tradition by announcing “Heroes Emeritus” – an initiative to deliver care packages to local senior veterans and veterans' families and to honor them for their service. The care packages will consist of nightlights, first aid kits, medication management containers, water bottles, nutritious snacks and other items to help ensure our local heroes are safe in their homes. Heroes Emeritus is an extension of the “Safely Somewhere” program, which helps ensure all seniors are safe wherever they live. The care package will also contain an Emeritus Medal of Valor, thanking veterans for their service. 3. Visit Plimoth Plantation for the annual heirloom plant sale from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 25 through 27 and June 1 and 2 in the Hornblower Horticultural Center. The sale is a perennial favorite, featuring 17th century English and Native herbs, vegetables and flowers, as well as current favorites like heirloom tomatoes, broccoli raab, lemon grass, annual bedding flowers and more. Proceeds will help support Plimoth Plantation’s horticulture program. From 8 to 10 a.m. May 25, all members enjoy 30 percent off and receive a complimentary plant as a thank you. 4. The seventh annual golf classic to benefit the Fund for the Needy of St. Bonaventure Parish in Manomet will be held at Waverly Oaks Country Club in Plymouth Thursday, May 23. All are welcome to join in for a day of golf and post-tournament festivities, including a helicopter ball drop, dinner and silent auction. The golf classic is the only annual fundraising event for the FFN. For more than 30 years, the Fund for the Needy committee has offered emergency relief to families residing in the Manomet/South Plymouth community who are struggling with the financial impact of ongoing unemployment and increased expenses for everyday living. One hundred percent of the money raised by this tournament is used to support the critical efforts of the Fund Register online at stbonaventureplymouth.org and click on the Fund for the Needy link for the golf classic. Donations may be made payable to St. Bonaventure Fund for the Needy and mailed to: Fund for the Needy, P.O. Box 996, Manomet, MA 02345.
