Five Things You Need to Know Today: May 7

Registration to try out for the Jr. Eagles hockey team will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight, upstairs in the Armstrong rink in Plymouth.

1. The Jr. Eagles hockey team will hold tryouts for the 2013-2014 junior high season. Registration will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, upstairs in the Armstrong rink in Plymouth. There is a $50 nonrefundable fee to try out. Checks can be made payable to Plymouth Jr. Eagles. Tryouts will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, and again from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23 at the Armstrong rink in Plymouth. Players need to make it to both tryouts. Any player who will be in the 6th, 7th or 8th grade next year, who lives in Plymouth, is encouraged to try out. The mission of the Jr. Eagles is to develop the hockey skills of the players along with guiding them in areas of academics, attitude, work ethic and community service. Tryout forms can be found on the website located at www.eteamz.com/plymouthjreagles.

2. Plymouth Pop Warner Vikings football and cheerleading registration will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, May 8 and June 12, at the Plymouth Elks Lodge, located at 52 Long Pond Road. 3. Savor a scrumptious English tea and immerse yourself in Jane Austen’s world during a special tour of the Hedge House Museum, 126 Water Street in Plymouth, MA. Mothers and daughters are invited to enjoy this special experience on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend. Elegantly costumed guides converse about the characters and customs depicted in Austen’s novels, and share insights about the day-to-day lives of Americans during the Regency period. A costumed milliner offers creative tips on making period-style bonnets using ordinary modern materials such as placemats. Tea treats include homemade cakes and goodies prepared from authentic recipes of Plymouth families preserved in the Antiquarian Society’s collection. Weather permitting, tea will be served in the handsomely restored Colonial Revival garden courtyard, but the event will be held rain or shine. Costumes are welcome. Tickets are $15.

4. The annual Elks yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at 52 Long Pond Road. There are 15 spaces available for a donation of $20 per area of 10 by 12 feet. All proceeds go to the veteran programs at Plymouth Elks. Stop by the lodge at 52 Long Pond Road and pick your spot anytime after 2 p.m. When signing up, payment would be appreciated. All checks must be made out to B.P.O.E. 1476.The Black Feather Horse Rescue League will also be there.
