Spire Center Announces New Shows Including Say Darling, James Montgomery & Grain Thief!

Four diverse acts—from blues and bluegrass to Irish traditional music—will take the stage in Plymouth this fall and winter.

The Spire Center for Performing Arts announced four new shows. All-star musicians from around New England Say Darling will perform on November 28 and legendary blues musician James Montgomery will play with his band on November 29. Boston quintet Grain Thief will perform on December 4 and one of the most influential bands in the history of traditional Irish music Lúnasa will grace the Spire stage on December 18. Tickets go on sale for these shows on Saturday, September 13 at 6:00 a.m at spirecenter.org.

Say Darling is made up of Grammy-Nominated singer and songwriter Celia Woodsmith – of the acclaimed bluegrass band Della Mae – and critically lauded guitarist Chris Hersch formerly of the alt. country rock band Girls Guns & Glory. Blending distinctive original songs with classic tunes that pay homage to a shared musical heritage, Say Darling evokes the funky drive of Little Feat, the moving vocals of Bonnie Raitt and the instrumental prowess of the Tedeschi-Trucks Band.

With a career spanning over four decades, James Montgomery is renowned for his soulful harmonica playing, powerful vocals, and dynamic stage presence. As the lead singer and blues harp player of The James Montgomery Blues Band, he has shared the stage with icons like B.B. King, Muddy Waters, and Bonnie Raitt. Experience the magic of Montgomery's blues journey, filled with unforgettable tunes and timeless classics.

Grain Thief have released a series of critically acclaimed records that blur the lines between country music and bluegrass, while building a national audience off the strength of their live performances. Their new long-player House of the Dog is a testament to perseverance, friendship, and the simple perfection found between friends, acoustic instruments, and a microphone. It is a record that unfolds with an easy grace, full of brand-new tunes and feels as comfortable as broke-in denim. Patrick Mulroy (guitar, vocals), Zach Meyer (mandolin, vocals), Michael Harmon (bass, vocals), Tom Farrell (resonator guitar), and Alex Barstow (fiddle) have worn the chrome off their frets doing it the hard way. Grain Thief has spent the past few years playing shows, festivals, and folk conferences around the country.

Named for an ancient Celtic harvest festival, Lúnasa was formed in 1997 from members of some of the greatest Irish groups of the previous decade. From the start, the band’s complex arrangements and unique sound reshaped the boundaries of traditional music and energized audiences the world over. Having since sold over a quarter of a million records and performed over 2,000 shows, Lunasa has won multiple awards. Lúnasa are joined for their 2020-2021 winter season by the award winning Irish singer and bouzouki player Daoirí Farrell, one of the most important folk singers to come out of Ireland in recent years. He has won two prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Best Newcomer and Best Traditional Track and his 2019 album, A Lifetime Of Happiness, was nominated for three RTE Folk Awards in Ireland.

Tickets go on sale for these shows on Saturday, September 13 at 6:00 a.m at spirecenter.org. The Spire is located at 25 ½ Court Street in Plymouth, MA. The Spire is handicap accessible, public parking is available streetside, and at public lots near the venue.
