DUXBURY, MA — A 19-year-old accused of drowning his father in a Duxbury pond this summer has been indicted on a charge of murder, says Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.

A Plymouth County grand jury returned an indictment Friday, charging Jack Callahan, 19, a Norwell High School graduate, with one count of murder in the death of his father, Scott Callahan, 57.

On June 28, Duxbury police responded to a 2 a.m. phone call from Jack's mother, who said her son arrived home wet and alone to tell her his father was missing, says Cruz.

When police arrived at Island Creek Pond, they say they found Scott's body submerged in the water. Emergency crews rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Prosecutors allege that Jack went to Boston to find his father and bring him home from a bar. When he found his father, the two took an Uber home, stopping at the pond where the DA says a "physical altercation took place."

During Jack's arraignment in June, prosecutors say the teen was exorcising a demon within his father named, "Dirty Dan" and asked if his father wanted to go to heaven or hell.

This is when the DA says Jack began submerging his father under the water several times claiming to 'baptize' his father after he saw the 'demon in his eyes.'

The 19-year-old has been held without bail since his arraignment in June, where he pleaded not guilty.

His case will now be moved to Plymouth Superior Court where he will be arraigned at a later date, says the DA.
