The Pinehills Marks 10-Year Anniversary

A decade ago, Plymouth's experiment in 'smart growth' was launched. Ten years later, it's recognized as a success story, and the second largest tax payer to the city.

The Pinehills, Plymouth's "smart growth" development, marked its 10th anniversary recently -- a milestone that was noted with a feature story in the Boston Globe.

In the decade since ground was broken on the project, about 1,500 homes have been built there -- 920 of them restricted to owners age 55 or older. The development is permitted for another 1,500 homes on its 3,174-acre parcel.

The Globe story highlights the success of the development -- which has won dozens of design awards for its mixed use construction. Pinehills includes commercial and residents units in age-restricted areas, apartments, townhouse condominiums and single-family homes. And, of coures, golf courses. In the rocky housing market of the last few years, sales and values at Pinehills -- according to its owners -- have been relatively stable.
