Cemetery Fees Will Go Up on July 1

Fees for the Riverside Cemetery will be raised this summer.

The Board of Selectmen approved the DPW's proposal for new cemetery rates at Monday night's meeting. The rates will go up effective July 1, 2012.

According to the DPW,  fees were last raised in 2003 and remain lower than surrounding towns. Since 1998, the town has constructed 1,016 lots, which cost $446,764. Each lot costs $448 to construct.

Currently, the town charges $250 for a lot and a one-time maintenance fee of $250, totaling $500. The new rate for a lot will be $500 and the maintenance fee will remain the same, making the new cost for a single grave $750.
