North Reading Education Foundation is Formed
North Reading Education Foundation has been officially certified by the Secretary of the Commonwealth.

The following was submitted by the North Reading Education Foundation:
In 2010 the idea to create an education foundation for North Reading began to take shape. Maureen Vacca, a 15-year School Committee member; David Troughton, former North Reading Superintendent; and John Murphy, a local resident and Town Moderator, began meeting to discuss the formal creation of the North Reading Education Foundation. It was a long process but we are pleased to announce that the Secretary of the Commonwealth has officially certified the North Reading Education Foundation!
“NREF is committed to promoting student achievement and providing resources to enhance the educational experience for all students,” said President of the newly formed Foundation Maureen Vacca.
We have created our mission statement, established a bank account, opened a post office box, and filed with the Secretary of State's office. We will continue to build a solid organizational structure and plan a kick-off event for sometime in the spring. John Murphy will serve as the Treasurer and Dr. David Troughton as the Clerk of the Corporation. Colleen Dolan, another former School Committee
member, has agreed to serve as a board member and Superintendent Kathleen Willis is serving as an ex-officio member.

Future tasks include a formal fundraising plan, a web-site, and recruitment of
additional board members so as to grow the Foundation for the benefit of the entire community.
Superintendent Willis is excited by the prospect of moving this project forward.
“The formation of the North Reading Education Foundation is an important first step toward enhancing innovative educational opportunities for the students of North Reading. I look forward to working with the Foundation members to achieve this goal.”
