RMLD Honors Local Elementary School Students

RMLD announces winners of their t-shirt contest.

The following was submitted by RMLD:

Fourteen elementary school students from the four towns in the Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) service territory were recently honored at a ceremony at RMLD for their prize-winning entries in the Annual RMLD T-shirt Art Contest. A first, second and third place winner from each town and two honorable mentions from the Town of Reading were selected in the contest that encourages third and fourth graders to be more energy conscious, to be aware of their own impact on the environment and to be safe around electricity.

The annual contest coincides with RMLD’s annual Public Power Week/Energy Awareness Month activities.

Reading third graders and fourth graders from North Reading, Wilmington and Lynnfield submitted entries in this year’s contest. The winners were selected based on the message and the artwork on the T-shirts.

The winning entries were displayed at RMLD’s Reading Business Office and on a calendar presented to the students and their families at the ceremony. Each elementary school in the RMLD service area has also received calendars for its classrooms.

RMLD General Manager Vin Cameron and members of the RMLD Board of Light Commissioners recognized the following students at the awards ceremony:

North Reading:

1st place –Alexis Demetri,

2nd place –Elizabeth Barrett,

3rd place – Sarah Potter,

Reading:

1st place –Kate Simpson, Barrows School

2nd place –Andrew Daley, Joshua Eaton School

3rd place –Rose Piazza, Killam School

Honorable Mention – Lindsay VanderZouwen, Wood End School.

Honorable Mention – Matthew Mejail, Birch Meadow School

Wilmington:

1st place –Brandon Moy, North Intermediate School

2nd place –Vincent Scalfani, North Intermediate School

3rd place –Evelyn Miller- Nuzzo, West Intermediate School 

Lynnfield: 

1st place – Ravyn Everett, Huckleberry Hill School

2nd place –Monet LoPilato, Huckleberry Hill School

3rd place –Kaleigh Gibbons, Huckleberry Hill School 

In addition to their individual recognition, the first place winners, Kate Simpson, Barrows School; Alexis Demetri, JT Hood School; Brandon Moy, North Intermediate School; and Ravyn Everett, Huckleberry Hill School al so won a $200 art gift certificate from RMLD for their schools.
