5 Things: Conley School Hosting Local Business Appreciation Breakfast in Roslindale

Join the Friends of Healy Field for Boston Shines on Saturday.

 

  1. This morning the Conley School is hosting a Local Business Appreciation Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at the school. The school community is gearing up for its annual Spring Fling auction on May 10 and wanted to show its appreciation to local businesses, who get asked often for donations from our community's many schools, but are not always appreciated enough in return.
  2. Boston Shines is this weekend so please join Roslindale neighbors with a community clean-up starting at Temple Viet Nam. There will be sunflower planting at Healy Field, and an energy efficient light bulb swap. Organizations involved include Friends of Healy Field, Casserly House, Habitat for Humanity, the Mayor's Office, Greening Rozzie, Southwest Boston CDC, Archdale Housing Development, and Temple Viet Nam. Community clean-up will take place Firth Road to Claxton Street. Meet at Temple Viet Nam at 68 Bradeen St. Working from 10 to 11:30 a.m. 11:30 a.m. is lunch and a tour of the temple if you would like one. 
  3. Also on Saturday is Roslindale Wetlands Trail Work Day with volunteers spreading wood chips and removing invasive plants from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of Boston Shines. 43 Hazelmere Road - meet at the trail at the end of Hazelmere Road.
  4. Tonight and Saturday night there is live music at Select Cafe. 7-9 p.m. 2 Belgrade Ave.
  5. On Saturday learn about Growing Back Yard Vegetables with Roger Swain. Swain is known as "the man with the  red suspenders"and is famous for hosting the television show, The Victory Garden on PBS from mid 1980s until 2001. Tickets $10 benefit New Brook Farm and can be purchased at the door.
