5 Things: Eclectic Expressions; Boston Shines This Weekend

Volunteer on Saturday during Roslindale Wetlands Trail Work Day.

 

  1. Tonight enjoy Eclectic Expressions at the Roslindale Community Center. Led by Lisa Marie, an alumnus of the Berklee College of Music - Eclectic Expressions fuses, music, poetry, rap, spoken word, and soul into a one-of-a-kind presentation. The event will be hosted by BCYF staff and volunteers, and some of the participants. Local talent is encouraged to sign-up. Scheduled performers include: Berklee vocalist Devon Renee Frampton, rappers Domenic Dko Oehlschlagel, Steve Boston, and Moody Mula. Musical performance by Berklee’s Letia Larok. 6:15 p.m. Free.
  2. Also tonight biographer Justin Martin will discuss his newest book, “Genius of Place: The Life of Frederick Law Olmsted,” as part of West Roxbury Reads. West Roxbury Library. Free and open to the public. 7 p.m.
  3. Boston Shines is this weekend so please join Roslindale neighbors with a community clean-up starting at Temple Viet Nam. There will be sunflower planting at Healy Field, and an energy efficient light bulb swap. Organizations involved include Friends of Healy Field, Casserly House, Habitat for Humanity, the Mayor's Office, Greening Rozzie, Southwest Boston CDC, Archdale Housing Development, and Temple Viet Nam. Community clean-up will take place Firth Road to Claxton Street. Meet at Temple Viet Nam at 68 Bradeen St. Working from 10 to 11:30 a.m. 11:30 a.m. is lunch and a tour of the temple if you would like one. 
  4. Also on Saturday is Roslindale Wetlands Trail Work Day with volunteers spreading wood chips and removing invasive plants from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of Boston Shines. 43 Hazelmere Road - meet at the trail at the end of Hazelmere Road.
  5. And today there is a Toddler Story Time at the Roslindale Library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for free.
