See and Discuss Adams Park Renovation Plans Tonight with Free Appetizers

One of the most delicious public meetings will take place tonight, as Roslindale residents will be served free appetizers from Shanti, while learning about proposed renovations to Adams Park.

The free apps will be dished out at 6:15 p.m. at the Roslindale Community Center, with the meeting to start at 6:30 p.m.

"The Parks Department has developed some conceptual drawings that need to be discussed by the community. In addition, we will discuss short term renovations as well as a longer term vision for Adams Park. Your input as neighbors and parks users is welcomed and encouraged!" wrote Christina DiLisio, executive director in the RVMS newsletter.

Adams Park is about one-acre in size, and is a very active space through events like the annual Easter egg hunt, summer concerts, holiday tree lighting, and the Roslindale Village Farmers' Market. 

"The (Roslindale Village) Farmers' Market in particular has added to the wear and tear on the park and by most estimates it has become a more popular place to enjoy for both active and passive users than in the past," said Steven Gag, board president of RVMS, adding the park "needs to have adequate infrastructure and maintenance." 

"Adams Park is a real jewel for the community of Roslindale. It is smack-dab in the middle of our thriving business district and it is a magnet for events like the Egg Hunt, the Farmers' Market, a family picnic, concerts, a quick stroll in nature, a quiet spot for reading or reflection, a place to walk your dog, and a memorial space for contemplation of loved ones lost in war," added Gag.  

"That's why it is so important that community residents come to next Tuesday's meeting and voice their ideas and concerns for Adams Park," said DiLisio. "The improvements to the park will need to be phased in, hopefully over the next few years, and the community needs to define the scope of the project and make sure that our elected officials know how important Adams Park is to Roslindale."

DiLisio encouraged families with children to attend the meeting, but a separate space nearby for a kids' area was not secured for the meeting. She added RVMS is trying to secure a kids' area for future meetings associated with Adams Park.
