UPDATED: Police Respond to Car Accidents Friday Night

Police responded to two traffic accidents Friday night.

Police responded to two motor vehicle accident with entrapment Friday night and early Saturday morning.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, police responded to a car accident at 296 Canal Street.

When police arrived, one person was trapped in a Chevy Malibu against a pole near Bertini's Restaurant. A second car, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, was involved in the accident and sustained front end damage.

Police said the Chevy was taking a left across two lanes of traffic. One lane stopped to let the car go but another continued, causing the accident. 

The airbags in the Chevy Malibu were deployed and at least one person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to Swampscott Road where a car was into a telephone pole. 

According to the fire department, the pole had snapped and brought wires down.

Crews from Swampscott assisted Salem in removing the driver from the vehicle.

The accident is under investigation.
