Downtown Development Announcement Planned by State Official Tuesday

A state secretary plans a visit to downtown Salem on Tuesday morning to make an announcement at a key downtown property.

The state Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Greg Bialecki plans to visit Salem on Tuesday for an “announcement relative to housing and economic development.”

The event is planned for 11 a.m. on Tuesday Oct. 21 at 239 Washington St., which is at the corner of Canal and Mill streets.

The property is owned by RCG, the Somerville-based developer that has untaken several major projects in the downtown in recent years. The company bought the property for $1.1 million in 2008 and has been home to various businesses, including a nail salon, doggie daycare, laundromat, pool hall and pizza shop.
