Gov. Baker To Speak At Salem State Commencement
Gov. Charlie Baker will address graduates of the College of Health and Human Services and Bertolon School of Business in May.

SALEM, MA – Swampscott's own Charlie Baker is scheduled to speak at one of three graduations at Salem State University. Gov. Baker, who was awarded an honorary Salem State degree in 2008, will address graduates of the College of Health and Human Services and Bertolon School of Business on May 20.
Ambassador Nicholas Burns, former ambassador to Greece and NATO, and former State Department Spokesperson, will speak at Salem State's Schools of Graduate Studies Commencement on May 18. Burns currently teaches diplomacy and international relations at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He is also the director of the Aspen Strategy Group and senior counselor at the Cohen Group.
Burns will be awarded an honorary degree during the ceremony.

Antonia Novello, the first woman and first Hispanic U.S. Surgeon General, will deliver the commencement at the College of Arts and Sciences and School of Education's graduation on May 20. Novello led a campaign against the tobacco industry's advertisements aimed at children. She will be awarded an honorary degree.
"It’s an honor to have these exemplary leaders addressing our 2017 graduates," said Patricia Maguire Meservey, president of Salem State University. "I’m certain that their contributions to these ceremonies will be exceptionally meaningful and inspiring. These speakers are current and former public servants whose accomplishments, character and commitment we hope our students will aspire to emulate."
