Heavy Rain, High Winds Hit North Shore With Trees Down, Power Outages
The MBTA said a downed tree in the Salem area was causing commuter rail delays both inbound and outbound on Friday morning.

SALEM, MA — Heavy rains and wind gusts led to more delays in MBTA commuter rail service on the North Shore Friday morning.
Two days after drawbridge trouble forced hours of delays and shuttle bus use between the Beverly and Salem stops, a downed tree in Friday's storm was blamed for delays of up to 45 minutes in the Salem area late Friday morning.
Winds gusts howled up to 40 miles per hour overnight Thursday into Friday with heavy bands of rain pummeling the North Shore along a cold front Friday morning.

The Salem Ferry canceled its Friday morning trip.
The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency reported that more than 3,000 of the 4,968 power outages statewide were in Essex County as of 10:30 a.m. — with the majority in the Gloucester and Rockport area.

Clearing conditions were forecast for Friday afternoon into the weekend.
