MEPA Site Visit to Cinemaworld Project Location Cancelled

SALEM, MA - A Massachusetts Environmental Protection Agency site visit scheduled for the Cinemaworld project site on Highland Avenue on Monday was cancelled due to the weather.

However, the MEPA comment period for the project has been extended. The deadline for comments to MEPA is now April 12.

A large entertainment complex featuring cinemas, a restaurant, an arcade, and laser tag is being planned for 355-373 Highland Avenue by a Florida company.

An Environmental Notification Form (ENF) has been filed with the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs by Cinemaworld of Florida, Inc. to construct a 74,360 sf building containing 10 cinemas with 1,700 to 2,000 seats; a 90- to 120- seat restaurant; 16 bowling lanes; an arcade; and a laser tag area.

The project also includes a 26-foot wide internal roadway, 383 parking spaces, and new stormwater management system. The project will generate 2,536 new average daily car trips

Three existing buildings will be demolished and the project requires a new curb cut on Highland Avenue (Route 107).

The developers are looking to start construction by this summer and complete the project by the fall of 2017, according to the MEPA filing.
