SALEM, MA — Salem Ferry service to Boston was canceled for both Friday and Saturday amid forecasts of an ocean storm stirring up the seas off New England late this week.

Officials said depending on the timing of the arrival of the "Nor'easter storm" additional cancellations may be necessary.

A historic stretch of dry weather — 29 straight days in Boston as of Wednesday — is expected to come to a crashing end over the next couple of days as a mid-Atlantic storm that has been churning off the coast of the Carolinas for several days moves up north.

The storm is expected to arrive early Thursday to the south and gradually bring rain and a strong easterly wind to all of New England through Friday and into early Saturday before a brisk and much cooler weekend.
