PHOTOS: Dog OK After Swallowing Wrist Watches
The X-rays revealed leather straps, buckles and various small watch parts scattered inside her belly.
Time was of the essence for a dog in Massachusetts who swallowed three wrist watches last week.
“Mocha,” a Doberman who lives in Salem, Mass. with her owners Michele Parkinson and Jeff Courcelle, was brought to the MSPCA-Angell after the pooch chowed down on the watches. The dog was guiltily hovering over the broken pieces of the watch when her owners discovered what she had done.
The X-rays from Mocha’s visit to Angell revealed that Mocha ate various watch parts such as leather straps and grommets.

Dr. Zachary Crouse of the Angell’s Emergency and Critical Care unit performed an endoscopy to see inside the dog’s stomach and removed as much of the material as he could. This allowed Mocha’s body to operate normally. She was able to eliminate the remaining pieces during the course of the next week.
This isn’t the Doberman’s first rendezvous with trouble. Mocha, a serial object eater, endured a hospital visit last August when she ate a plastic juice container lid. The item caused an intestinal obstruction that required emergency surgery. After this second incident, owners Michele and Jeff say they will be more careful with what is accessible to Mocha in the future.

“One thing’s for sure: we’re going to do everything we can to keep anything remotely ingestible out of her reach,” said Michele Parkinson. “It’ll be a challenge—but one that we are committed to!”
