Police Respond To Several Accidents Over Weekend

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police log.

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police log from Thursday  through Sunday afternoon. Police responded to several car accidents in which people were transported to the hospital.

  • Thursday at 4:08 p.m., police responded to Highland Avenue for a motor vehicle break-in. The owner of the car told police she got in her car and turned it on and it began making strange noises. The woman called her husband who came to the scene and found her catalytic converter was missing.
  • At 5:28 p.m. Thursday, police responded to Highland Avenue after a man said he came back to his car after doing his grocery shopping and found his window smashed. Nothing was taken from inside his vehicle.
  • At 6:01 p.m. Thursday, cars were towed from Margin Street in order to perform street sweeping.
  • At 6:49 p.m. Thursday, an Essex Street resident reported two pieces of aluminum siding were taken from the side of her house. 
  • Police responded to Fort Avenue at 7 p.m. Thursday for cars racing.
  • A large pothole was found on Cambridge Street at 7:21 p.m. Thursday.
  • Police responded to Howard Street at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a fight. When police arrived, they found a group of people standing there, but not fighting. The group was sent on their way.
  • At 8:44 p.m. Thursday, the owner of an Osgood Street plumbing company reported their three-year-old water heater and scrap metal were missing from the alleyway next to the business.
  • At 11:26 p.m. Thursday, an officer on patrol saw a car drive through a red light on Loring Avenue. When police pulled the driver over, she stated she did not have an active license. The driver was summonsed.
  • At 12:04 a.m. Friday, police responded to Florence Street for a report of a suspicious vehicle. When they arrived, they found a man sitting in a trailer. He said he was just playing Scrabble with a friend. Michael C. Farrell, 46, 91 Cabot St., Beverly, was arrested on three warrants.
  • At 1:36 a.m. Friday, residents of Witch Way said a car struck two fences on the street and drove away. Police found the car involved parked nearby and towed it until the owner talks to police.
  • At 2:13 a.m. Friday, an officer on patrol witnessed a man walking behind the Collins Middle School holding a "Wrong Way" sign. Upon stopping the man, he told police he was leaving the hospital where he was just treated for an arm injury and was walking home. When police asked him where he got the sign, he said he found it in some bushes and was taking it home. Police noticed the sign matched one that was now missing from the school's roadway at the rear of the building. The man was summonsed for receiving stolen property under $250.
  • At 9:52 a.m. Friday, police responded to Pediatric Associates on Highland Avenue and found a rock had been thrown through the front window. Entry was not gained and no alarm sounded.
  • At 10:08 a.m. Friday, a Turner Street resident told police someone tried to break into his home overnight. Police witnessed pry marks around a window. Police advised the resident to install motion lights. 
  • At 10:54 a.m. Friday, police responded to Glover Street for a report of a car into a tree. The driver told police she was cut off in traffic and then struck the city tree. The bark was stripped from the tree, but there were no injuries.
  • At 12:50 p.m. Friday, a Salem Street resident reported their bicycle was stolen from the basement.
  • At 1:14 p.m. Friday, police responded to New Derby Street for a report of a man selling meat out of his truck. The meat man was gone when police arrived.
  • At 2:25 p.m. Friday, the Animal Control officer was called to Fort Avenue for a dog wandering around the neighborhood without a leash. The owner was fined.
  • At 3 p.m. Friday, a mother walked into the police station to tell police her daughter and her friends were followed while they were walking home from school. The mother said the girls cut across someone's lawn on Gallows Hill Road and a man in a car pulled up and said they just walked across his parents' lawn. The man continued to follow them until they got to the Witchcraft Heights School. At one point the man said, "keep laughing and you'll see what happens."
  • At 6:03 p.m. Friday, police were called to Essex Street after a person told police she saw a man urinating in the pedestrian mall.
  • At 6:05 p.m. Friday, police and fire responded to Kelley Road for a kitchen fire. The small fire in the resident's stove was put out prior to police and fire arriving.
  • At 6:21 p.m. Friday, police placed a highly intoxicated man on Washington Street in protective custody.
  • At 7:10 p.m. Friday, police responded to Canal Street Two people were brought to Salem Hospital.
  • At 9:48 p.m. Friday, a resident of a Lafayette Street apartment reported a swastika was drawn on a hallway wall.
  • At 12:12 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a Washington Street bar where a patron refused to leave. Police placed the man in protective custody.
  • At 1:14 a.m. Saturday, a car drove into a telephone pole on Swampscott road, snapping it in half. The car continued up an embankment and into a fence. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and Swampscott personnel was called upon to help. The driver was transported to MassGeneral Hospital. 
  • At 4:26 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a fight on Mason Street.
  • At 5:39 p.m Saturday, police responded to a Granite Street address for a motor vehicle with its back window smashed.
  • At 8:04 p.m. Saturday, police received a complaint about a group looking into cars and houses on North Street.
  • At 8:49 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a car accident near Vinnin Square. One person was transported to Salem Hospital with possible neck and head injuries.
  • Saturday at 9:58 p.m. a Highland Avenue store owner complained of several threatening phone calls in which a male said he will pull a knife on him.
  • At 10:51 p.m. youths were seen throwing rocks on Grove Street.

  • Catrice M. Clemons, 21, 125 Beaver St., Boston, was arrested and charged with violating the city's knife ordinance, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and larceny over $250.
  • Clayton Marshall, 23, 14 Park St., Salem, was arrested on a warrant.
  • Michael L. Troups, 48, 7 Willow St., Lynn, was arrested on a warrant.
  • Joao Bettencourt, 54, 32 Tremont St., Salem, was arrested and charged with violating the city's knife ordinance and assault and battery.
  • Shawn Michael Negri, 26, 5 Porter St. Salem, was arrested on a warrant. 
  • Herb H. Henry, 47, 166 Boston St., Salem, was arrested on a warrant.
  • Javier E. Tiburcio-Pena, 22, 189 Lafayette St., was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
  • Kelli A. Cavanaugh, 42, 400 Revere Beach Blvd. Revere, was arrested and charged with larceny over $250 and possession of class C drugs.
  • Anthony J. Cennami, 38, 30 Rainbow Circle, Peabody, was arrested and charged with a red light violation and driving without a license.
  • Kristina Matarazzo, 25, 8 Chase St., Salem, was arrested on two warrants.
  • Robert T. Sprenger, 23, 3 Boston St., Somerville, was charged with failure to signal, improper left turn, following too close, driving after license suspension, possession of mace without license.
  • Domonic J. Zammit, 32, 2718 NW 5th Ave., Cape Coral, Florida, was charged with driving without  a license and speeding.
  • Christopher F. Jason, 21, 14 Red Rock Lane, Beverly, was charged with malicious destruction of property over $250 and possession of a fake ID.
  • Hosea J. Kendrick, 41, 106 Margin St., Salem, was arrested on a warrant and also charged with trespassing, disorderly conduct, breaking and entering in the daytime, possession of burglarious tools.
  • Eder Lopez-Miranda,28, 143 Williams Ave. Lynn, was charged with driving without a license.
  • Lorna L. Nassor, 41, 33 Upham St., Salem, was charged with domestic assault and battery.
  • Joana Ferrao Sousa, 22, 5 Lincoln Road, Peabody, was charged with assault and battery and disturbing the peace.
