Salem Academy Charter School Names SSU Alumna New Principal
Melissa Lassen has 14 years of experience at the school, including as Director of College Counseling and Postsecondary Success since 2011.

SALEM, MA — A longtime Salem Academy staff member and Salem State University master's graduate will become the charter school's new Upper School principal starting this summer.
Melissa Lassen, who has served as the Director of College Counseling and Postsecondary Success since 2011, has filled several roles at the school over the past 14 years.
The school said Lassen's work has been instrumental in developing a strong college-going culture, and her ability to lead with empathy, clarity and strategy make her an makes her an outstanding fit to lead the Upper School.

"Her deep understanding of our students, her vision for equity and excellence, and her steady presence over many years make her uniquely qualified to lead our Upper School," said Stephanie Callahan, Executive Director. "Melissa brings a rich blend of compassion, accountability, and strategic thinking that will benefit both our team and our students."
She will oversee the academic, social-emotional, and operational aspects of grades 9–12. She will lead a team of educators in ensuring high academic standards, a supportive and inclusive school culture, and a strong pathway to college and career success for all students.

Lassen holds a Master of Education in School Counseling from Salem State University and a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Rhode Island.
