Salem Man Arrested With $400K of Heroin in Nissan

State Police said a Salem man was stopped in the western part of Massachusetts with $400,000 worth of heroin in his Nissan on Monday.

A Salem man with an estimated $400,000 worth of heroin allegedly in his car was arrested Monday afternoon in western Massachusetts, according to Massachusetts State Police.

David Morales, 35, was charged with trafficking heroin, making an unsafe lane change and having an obstructed/non-transparent window.

The arrest happened at about 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 20 when Massachusetts State Trooper Scott Driscoll of the Sturbridge Barracks was on patrol on Route 84 west when he saw a 2007 Nissan Altima make an unsafe lane change. Driscoll also noticed that the Altima’s windows were allegedly tinted beyond the legal limit.

He stopped the car and called in Trooper George Demos of the State Police K-9 unit, who located about four kilograms of a substance believed to be heroin inside the vehicle. Police estimated the wholesale value of four kilograms of heroin at about $400,000.

Morales was taken to the State Police Barracks in Sturbridge and held on $100,000 bail pending his arraignment in Dudley District Court.
