Salem Schools Celebrate Walk/Bike to School Days during May

Studies show that when students exercise, they arrive focused and ready to learn.

Salem, MA - With support from Massachusetts Safe Routes to School, Safe Routes to School Salem, and Mass in Motion Salem; Bates, Carlton, Saltonstall, and Horace Mann schools will be participating in Walk to School days in May. Carlton will be walking from the Common May 4th and Saltonstall will be walking on May 10th. Scheduling is ongoing for the other schools, please contact Melissa Wilson if you are interested in joining a walk to school day event at your school, or for specific information.

Various studies show when students exercise before school, they arrive focused and ready to learn and this also improves students’ health and readiness to learn without taking time away from existing school-day activities

As part of the activities this month, Mass in Motion Salem and Safe Routes to School Salem are also joining with the Salem-Beverly Elks, Salem Cycle, North Shore Medical Center, and the National Park Service to host a kids bike rodeo at the Salem Common on May 14th starting at 9:30am as part of Salem Education Day. We will have free bike helmets, bike lights, and water bottles. The rodeo will end with a slow family ride out Derby Wharf to the light house, which will be open for this occasion.
