Tax Season: Volunteers To Help North Shore With Filings

Salem State students and volunteers will help low-income families prepare their taxes.

SALEM, MA – Salem State University and North Shore Community Development Corporation will provide free income tax preparation for qualified families and individuals until April 13.

The IRS-certified service, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, is by appointment only. The income standards needed to qualify are below. In order to be eligible for the service, your income must be less than that listed:

· $47,955 ($53,505 if married filing jointly) with three or more qualifying children
· $44,648 ($50, 198 if married filing jointly) with two qualifying children
· $39,296 ($44,846 if married filing jointly) with one qualifying child
· $ 14,880 ($20,430 if married filing jointly) with no qualifying children and between the ages of 25 and 65

Married couples must file jointly, all qualifying children must have a valid social security number, and participants must be U.S. citizens or resident aliens.

Taxpayers are asked to bring photo ID, social security card, or tax ID number, all tax documents such as W2 forms, health insurance information, and 1099 forms, and bank routing and account numbers.

The service will take place on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Salem State in the Central Campus Building. To make an appointment, call 978-219-5737.
