86-Year-Old Taunton Man Accused Of Killing His Wife Faces Judge

An elderly man who police say killed his wife over the summer is set to appear in court.

TAUNTON, MA — An elderly Taunton man who police say killed his wife over the summer is set to face a judge Monday, police say.

Edmund Silveira, 86, of Taunton, will be arraigned in Fall River Superior Court on murder charges, according to Bristol District Attorney's Office.

On August 29, officers responded to a Bay Street home in Taunton after receiving a call of a shooting. Once they got to the scene, they found Dianne Silveira, 71, wounded in the driveway.

Emergency crews rushed Silveira to Morton Hospital, but she did not survive her injuries.

An investigation brought SWAT team members to the home where they found Edmund unconscious and suffering from several puncture wounds to his neck and wrists, which authorities say appeared to be self-inflicted knife wounds.

Edmund was treated at a hospital then later detained in Rhode Island.
