NEW BEDFORD, MA — The pilot of a small plane is dead after the aircraft crashed into a New Bedford cemetery late Monday afternoon. The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed the pilot's death.

The pilot, who has not been identified, was the only person aboard the plane.

The cause of the crash is not known.

The plane departed from New Bedford Regional Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Authority. The airport is about about 5 miles north of the cemetery.
