Destination Imagination Offers Scholarship, Volunteer Opportunities

Destination Imagination is a student-led program that fosters leadership, problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Welcome to the 2016-2017 year of Destination Imagination. For those of you who know DI, welcome back! For those of you who would like to learn more about DI, we will be having an informational meeting on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Sherwood Middle School cafeteria. Feel free to bring your interested students with you; we will be having activities to demonstrate what DI is all about.

Destination Imagination is a student-led program that fosters leadership, problem-solving and teamwork skills, not to mention a great excuse to get together with friends to work on a project and eat snacks! Last year, the Shrewsbury Public Schools had 14 different teams of which three made it to the state competition, and two made it to the global (national) competition.

Destination Imagination is a first through 12th-grade activity. High school students may earn community volunteer hours for managing teams. Some scholarships for graduating seniors are also available if they are enrolled in the program their senior year. Taking a trip to a national competition also would look great on a college application.

If you are not one that likes to attend meetings, feel free to use our online signup sheet.

A check, payable to Shrewsbury Public Schools – DI Fund for $75 per student, will also have to be sent to Eric Craft, 70 Bay View Dr., Shrewsbury, 01545. This DI fee is to enroll the team, purchase team shirts and help teams that go beyond the regional competition. Students at the middle or high school level who participate must also have paid the school-based activity fee for this school year ($50 for middle schools, $100 for high school), which is a one-time fee that provides access to all school-sponsored activities and clubs and defrays program overhead expenses. For information on the school activity fee, see your school’s website.

If anyone feels they are not able to pay this fee, contact Eric Craft via ecraft@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us or Lavanya Thiagarajan via lavanya@townisp.com.
