Fire Broke Out At The Shrewsbury Montessori School

The blaze was confined to one room in the school.

SHREWSBURY, MA — A fire broke out in a classroom at the Montessori School, located at 55 Oak St., at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

There was light smoke filling the hallway, which quickly turned black and made its way outside, according to the report from Fire Chief Jim Vuona.

The fire, which was contained to a room and its contents, was knocked down within five minutes, according to the report.

"An electrical malfunction of a light fixture is believed to be the cause of the fire," Chief Vuona said.

A contractor was outside the school when fire officials arrived. No injuries were reported.

District 14 Investigation Team investigated the fire. Westborough and Northborough Fire Departments assisted at the school. Boylston Fire Department covered headquarters for Shrewsbury Fire Department.
