Here's Why Your Water Is Brown, Or Off, In Shrewsbury

Water main work this week in Shrewsbury may affect your water. In some areas, it'll be shut off. Better get your shower in.

SHREWSBURY, MA—Water main work starts on Tuesday, Aug. 21, starting on Main Street between Holman Street and Francis Ave. in Shrewsbury.

New water valves are going in on Holman Street and Main Street, and officials don't anticipate any interruption of water service for customers in the area.

The roadway on Main Street will be restricted to one lane with the Westbound Lane closed to through traffic for a period of approximately eight hours. The lower section of Holman St. will also be closed during this period of time, too.

On Wednesday, Aug. 22, water main and valve replacement work continues in the same area. Main Street will be entirely closed in both directions and traffic rerouted on adjacent streets.

Due to the work involved, water will be off for customers on both sides of Main Street from Holman Street to South Street, including all of Bruce Ave. along with Francis Ave., from the approximate intersection of Francis Gardens to Main Street.

Water will likely be off between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Discolored water may also be encountered in the immediate and adjacent areas temporarily due to this work. If this situation does occur, run water from an outside faucet closest to where the service line enters the residence, in order to prevent sediment from getting into plumbing fixtures within the household.
