Man Allegedly Punched, Kicked Officer During Drug Arrest
This Leicester man faces several charges, including assault on an officer and possession of cocaine.

SHREWSBURY, MA—
Around 7:25 p.m. on May 12 Officer Chad Chysna pulled a motorcycle over on Route 20 in Shrewsbury for having an expired license plate. A call had come in to the station for a suspicious person in the area.
Chysna found a large baggie of cocaine on the driver, Derek Ismael Reyes, when he removed his phone from his backpack. Reyes, 41, Pleasant Street, Leicester, tried to take off after the officer spotted the drugs, which ensued in a struggle. Reyes allegedly punched and kicked Chysna as he took Reyes into custody, at one point trying to disarm him of his baton.

Reyes was found to be in possession of 120 grams of Cocaine and more than four ounces of Marijuana. He was held at Shrewsbury PD and arraigned that Monday at Westborough District Court on charges of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, trafficking Class B substance, possession of Class D with intent to distribute, unregistered vehicle, unlicensed operation of MV, assault and battery on a public employee.
