Man Saved From Freezing Waters In Shrewsbury
A man was rescued from frigid waters in Lake Quinsigamond in the early hours of Thursday morning.
SHREWSBURY, MA - A man was saved from freezing waters in Lake Quinsigamond in Shrewsbury early Thursday morning, according to the Shrewsbury Police Department (SPD).
Just before 8 a.m., officers responded to a missing male near Boston Turnpike. Multiple SPD responders began searching the area, and eventually found a man in the water near the middle of the lake just under the Route 9 Bridge. The victim was yelling for help and had trouble staying afloat in the frigid waters.
Officers were able to toss a flotation device, and a drone unit was activated to assist rescuers. Responders on the bridge pulled the man closer to the shore with a rope attached to the device. Shrewsbury Fire's rescue diver entered the water and assisted the victim, as three additional officers kept pulling on the rope. The man was ashore by 8:11 a.m., where he received medical aid and was transported to a local hospital.
