New Cajun, Indian Restaurants Opening Along Route 9

A local restaurant specializing in Louisiana fare will open a Shrewsbury outpost along Route 9. Indian street food will follow.

SHREWSBURY, MA — A slice of New Orleans is coming to Shrewsbury.

The Shrewsbury Select Board recently approved a license for NOLA Cajun Kitchen to open a new restaurant in the Marketplace Shrewsbury plaza near the corner of Route 9 and Maple Avenue.

NOLA Cajun Kitchen is based in West Boylston with a restaurant along Route 12 just north of the Worcester line. The restaurant specializes in Cajun-style classics like poboys, crawfish by the pound, étouffée, gumbo and "boils" — mixtures of boiled seafood, vegetables with spices.

NOLA is part of a set of licenses for restaurants approved by the town over the last year, including a new café at the Market Basket along Route 20, Halal Guys in the White City plaza and Broken Creek Vineyard, which was bought by new owners Jean and Abigail Skaff and reopened at the end of April.

The Marketplace Shrewsbury plaza was also recently renovated, and has been adding new tenants in recent months. The plaza will also be the site of an Egg Holic restaurant — an Indian street food chain with 10 locations across the U.S.
