SHREWSBURY, MA — The process of lowering water levels for Newton Pond in Shrewsbury will begin on Friday.

The water level will be lowered between 24 and 36 inches to reduce populations of invasive plant species in the pond, according to the town. All boats, floating docks, or other infrastructure must be removed or secured, to prevent stranding, damage or loss as water levels decrease.

The drawdown will be carried out by removing stop logs at Newton Pond Dam. They will be put back in the dam in March or April of 2026 so the water can refill to typical water levels.
