Shrewsbury Firefighter Honored At Mass. Firefighter Of The Year Awards

Firefighters from 15 local fire departments and two state agencies were honored for lifesaving heroism and community service.

SHREWSBURY, MA — A firefighter from the Shrewsbury Fire Department was honored by the Healey-Driscoll Administration on Tuesday.

Firefighters from 15 local fire departments and two state agencies were honored for lifesaving heroism and community service at the state's 36th annual Firefighter of the Year Awards.

Paul Pavone, who served as Crib Support Staff at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, received the Stephen D. Coan Fire Marshal’s Award. Pavone was part of a group to receive the award for their lifesaving actions after a recruit went into cardiac arrest during training earlier this year.

The event took place at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, and WCVB-TV anchor Doug Meehan emceed the ceremony.
