Shrewsbury Girl Scouts Teach Healthy Habits To Younger Students
The program covers good sleep, hygiene, nutrition and exercise.
SHREWSBURY, MA — Four members of Girl Scout Troop 11087 in Shrewsbury are taking on a big project with an even bigger purpose.
Cadettes from Girl Scout Troop 11087 are working toward their Silver Award by teaching local elementary schoolers the importance of healthy habits. Seventh graders Lipika Valli Mopidevi, Sookti Hunnur, Joshitha Pyla and Rhea Kongala are hosting four classes.

The program, Healthy Habits to Our Community, teaches students from first to fourth grade about good sleep, hygiene, nutrition and exercise. The idea came after the cadettes noticed many kids struggled with these everyday skills.

The four girls created an engaging program at Oak Middle School. It includes a slideshow, a puppet-show skit and a hands-on experiment. The children also get to take home a comic book.

The project took a lot of effort to prepare. They interviewed doctors for expert advice, contacted schools and societal programs.
They also ran bake sales to raise money for printing supplies.
Now, the cadettes hope to earn a Girl Scout Silver Award, which is the highest award a cadette can earn.
